2010 EVENTS    

FEBRUARY                                                                                                                                                     Princess Party                     
Come celebrate a day fit for a Princess! This event is held from 9:30-10:45am on February 12th. Have a fun filled time of crafts, games, and snacks. Dress to get messy. Program for ages 3-5 years and the cost is $15 per child. Program is held at the Longwell Municipal Center. Please register by February 6th. PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Space is limited. Barnyard Hoedown Party
Put on your overalls and join us for a party on the farm!  This event is held from 9:30-10:45am on February 19th. Have a fun filled time of crafts, games, and snacks. Dress to get messy. Program for ages 3-5 years and the cost is $15 per child. Program is held at the Longwell Municipal Center. Please register by February 6th. PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Space is limited.

American Red Cross Blood Drives
Blood drives are held at the Westminster Family Fitness Center (11 Longwell Avenue) from 2-6pm on the following dates; 2/23, 7/7, 9/8 & 12/8.  Please call 410-751-5501 for an appointment.

MARCH

Tumblekicks "Just Me" and "Caretaker and Me"
Just Me is designed for children ages 2-5 years-old. This blended class has been very successful. Each child has the opportunity to socialize and exercise without a caretaker. During class a variety of props (i.e. parachute, hula hoops, bean bags, etc.) and music will be used to explore movement. In addition, children will be introduced to basic tumbling and pre-sports skills.

Caretaker and Me is designed for children ages 15 months-2 1/2 years-old. This class is with a caretaker. All children must be walking. Props are also included (i.e. parachute, hula hoops, bean bags, etc.) and music will be used to work on all areas of development. There will be free play and structured activities. Corbit's Charge Civil War Ball
This event features period dancing at the Old Armory (11 Longwell Ave) on March 27, 2010, 8-11pm.  Tickets are $20 per person. Dance instruction is offered for experienced and beginner dancers as well as light refreshments. Proceeds benefit the 147th Corbit's Charge Commemoration, a non-profit organization to educate the public on the Civil War History in Westminster. APRIL

Easter Egg Hunt
Join the Easter Bunny at the Annual Egg Hunt.  Hunts will be held on Saturday April 3, 2010 on the Westminster City Hall Grounds (1838 Emerald Hill Lane). The first hunt will start at 10:30am for ages one to four years. The second hunt is for ages five to eight years and begins at 11:30am. There are over 4,000 plastic filled eggs with 100 special prize eggs. The hunts are FREE and open to the public. Bring a basket! A bunny petting zoo is also offered. Face painting, basket raffles, and food will be available for purchase Call 410-857-9072 for more information.

Child Car Seat Check
The Carroll County Health Department holds a FREE child car seat check from 10am to 12pm at the Westminster Family Fitness Center (11 Longwell Ave). Seat check dates are 4/6, 5/3, 6/4, 7/7, 8/6 and 9/2.  For an appointment, call Maggie at 410-876-4448.

Father/Son Miniature Golf Tournament
The 5th annual golf event is held on April 10 at 10am at the Westminster's Island Green. The fee includes light refreshments, awards, and door prizes. Trophies will be awarded to the first place winners in the following age groups: 5-7, 8-10, and 11-13 years-old. The tournament is limited to 36 twosomes. (ONE ADULT MALE AND ONE MALE CHILD in Kindergarten through the Eighth grade).

Tour de Carroll

Held on Saturday April 24, 2010 at Dutterer Family Park. Tour de Carroll is a cycling event for all ages and skill levels, featuring an eight-mile Family Fun Route, 25 mile Recreational Route, 36 mile Spring Classic, and a 63 Mile Metric Century. Flower and Jazz Festival
Event takes place in Historic Downtown Westminster on May 8, 10am-4pm and is designed for a leisurely day of fun and jazz. Delicious food and great entertainment will be offered. Local nurseries set up beautiful displays of unusual plants and shrubs. There are also over 100 craft vendors displaying a wide variety of unique items. This event is open to the public. Moms...don't forget to visit the information table for your free gift. Admission and parking are FREE! NO PETS PLEASE. A vendor form is required. Call 410-848-4883 for more information.

Flower and Jazz Fun Run
The fun run is held at the Wakefield Valley Community Trail (Tahoma Farm Rd) on May 8th. There will be a 200 yard dash for children ages 6 and under starting at 9am. The one mile fun run starts 9:15am for ages 7 and up. The timed 5K will begin at 9:30am. A $20 donation is requested ($5 discount when registering 2 or more participants). Registration Form

The Mother/Son Dates will be held on May 12 and October 6 and are hosted at Martin's Westminster from 6:30 to 9pm. (PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE) Tickets are $60 per couple. Boys must be in Kindergarten through Eighth grades. The evening includes dinner, dancing, games, door prizes, and a 5X7 photo of the couple, parting gifts, and much more! TICKETS MUST BE PREPAID. A COUPLE IS CONSIDERED ONE ADULT AND ONE CHILD. NO EXCEPTIONS! This is to ensure accurate head counts of adults and children meals and parting gifts. Tickets are limited.         "Cross Campus" 5K & 1 Mile Fundraiser, May 15, 2010.
The Kelli Hawthorne "RUN FOR LIFE" is a celebration of life dedicated to Kelli Hawthorne, a graduate student at McDaniel College who suffered traumatic injuries during a fall.  All proceeds from the race will go to the Kelli Hawthorne Fund to help ease the cost of her medical bills. For more information contact khrunforlife@gmail.com. Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony
The Parade starts at 10am on Pennsylvania Avenue and ends on Church Street at the Westminster Cemetery. A memorial service will begin at 11am in the cemetery. For more information contact Daniel Bohn at 410-848-6179.

JUNE                                                                                                                                                              

Art in the Park
Held on June 5th from 10am to 5pm on the City Hall Grounds (1838 Emerald Hill Lane) rain or shine. This is a festival of visual and performing arts featuring dozens of the region's most talented painters, photographers, and fine craft artists. Continuous live music and free kids crafts. Westminster Family Fitness Center Yard Sale

June 5th, 8am-Noon on the lawn at the Longwell Municipal Building, 11 Longwell Ave.  A variety of treasures will be available at great prices. Call 410-751-5501 for more information.                       

Summer Day Camp
Westminster City Recreation's Summer Day camp takes place for 11 consecutive weeks. It is designed for children to participate in a full day program interacting with one another. Campers participate in games, sports, crafts, field trips, swimming, and a variety of other activities. This is a great way for your children to spend the summer enjoying structured, safe, and fun activities. See our complete listing here.


Tot Camp - Now Offering 8 Weeks!
Tot Camp is held in the Community Building located at the Westminster Municipal Pool (325 Royer Rd.) and is designed for children ages 3-5 years, who must be potty trained. Group settings like crafts, circle games and socializing with other children are key elements. Mini field trips and swimming will also be scheduled throughout the summer. 3 on 3 Basketball
Starts June 15 through August 23 with five weeks of fundamentals and drills and five weeks of games. The league is for boys and girls ages 5-9 and 10-13. Fundamentals and games will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8pm at Jaycee Park

FREE Concert - Newmont Military Band in Belle Grove Square Park

On Friday, June 18, 2010, the City of Westminster’s Department of Recreation and Parks and Office of Economic Development will host an outdoor evening concert by the Newmont Military Band of Windsor, Vermont in Belle Grove Square Park, beginning at 7:00pm.

Just as in the old days, bring your own blanket or chair on which to sit and enjoy the concert. Belle Grove Square Park is located at the corner of Bond and West Green Streets in Downtown Westminster. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the gymnasium of the old Longwell Armory (known today as the Westminster Family Center) at 11 Longwell Avenue.

Corbit's Charge Civil War Event - Anniversary Commemoration

Saturday June 26th and Sunday June 27th - FREE Admission

A Month of Sundays Concert Series -Voted Carroll's Best Place to Listen to Music!
Held every Sunday in July, this free concert series celebrates the wonderful outdoors in the summer in the City. The concert series is presented in joint cooperation with the Westminster City Recreation and Parks Department, Carroll County Department of Recreation & Parks, and Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc. It is located in Westminster City Park, beginning at 6:45pm. Food and beverages are for sale. Donations of personal care items for all ages: baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected to benefit the Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.

AUGUST                                                                                                                                                         

National Night Out
August 3rd residents can run crime out of neighborhoods! Joined by the Westminster City Police, a night of block parties is a great way to meet and mingle with your neighbors. City officials and Police Officers visit each site. Call Sgt. Keith Benfer at 410-848-4646 for more information.


Westminster Municipal Band Concert
This concert is held at Belle Grove Park on the corner of Green and Bond Street at 6pm on August 22, 2010. Bring a lawn chair. For more info call Greg Wantz at 410-848-8852

Perennial Swap
Held on August 28th at Westminster City Park Pavilion #1 is a swap of abundant fall perennials held from 11am to 1pm. Every person with a perennial to swap will be given a raffle ticket to win a prize. Some fundraiser concessions are provided at a small cost with revenue going to program funding. Donations are welcome. Pre-registration is not required, but please sign in upon arrival.


SEPTEMBER                                                                                                                                                  
Westminster Fallfest Parade
September 23rd at 7pm. The parade will start at Dutterer Family Park on Monroe Street to Pennsylvania Avenue and will continue down Main Street ending on Longwell Avenue.

Westminster Fallfest Midnight Madness
Held September 24th from 6pm to Midnight.  Experience the sights, scents, and sounds of an autumn evening in downtown Historic Westminster. A variety of businesses will be open for your shopping pleasure. Live entertainment, antique cars, and much more will be available. Parking is FREE. NO PETS PLEASE!

Westminster Fallfest
September 23-26, this annual event benefits Access Carroll, Carroll County Youth Services Bureau, the Taneytown Lions Club and the Lions Club of Westminster. Enjoy carnival rides, live entertainment, and great food. On Saturday and Sunday enjoy over 100 crafters and commercial vendors gathered for your shopping pleasure. Halloween Parade
The annual Halloween parade in Historic Downtown Westminster on October 26, 2010.  It begins with registration at 6pm on Monroe St. near Dutterer's Park. The parade begins at 7pm via Pennsylvania Avenue to Main Street and ending on Longwell Avenue. This event is coordinated by the American Legion Post #31. Call 410-857-7953 for more information

Halloween Bench Press

The Westminster Family Fitness Center (11 Longwell Ave.) will sponsor their Annual Halloween Bench Press on Saturday October 30, 2010 at 11am. The cost to register is $50. Registration forms can be returned to The Family Fitness Center or to GNC in Cranberry Square Shopping Center. Registration deadline for the regular fee is October 10th. Registration forms submitted after that must pay $70. Those entering more than one division will be charged $70. Call 410-751-5501 for more details.

NOVEMBER                                                         

Veterans Day Ceremony

Fall Holiday Camp
This camp is offered for 6-10 year-old children November 22, 23 and 24 from 9am-4pm. Crafts, games, sports, and snacks are provided. Camp will be held Monday to Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. Registration can be for one day or all three. Cost is $20 per day, per child with an additional $5 per day, per child fee for before care (7-9am) and $5 per day, per child fee for after care (4-6pm). Participants need to bring a bagged lunch and a drink. Snacks are provided. Dress your child to play and possibly get messy.  Call 410-848-9161 for more information. Pre-registration is required.

Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Parade 
Held on November 27th, 2010 at 5pm. Come celebrate the holiday season in Historic Westminster. Enjoy the seasonal sounds of the Westminster Municipal Band, sing carols, see the awarding of the Mayor's Cup and await the arrival of Santa. Come early to purchase a treat from the holiday bake sale and enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate.
