JANUARY 2012                                                                                                                                             

Tumblekicks "Just Me" and "Caretaker and Me"
Just Me is designed for children ages 2-5 years-old. This blended class has been very successful. Each child has the opportunity to socialize and exercise without a caretaker. During class a variety of props (i.e. parachute, hula hoops, bean bags, etc.) and music will be used to explore movement. In addition, children will be introduced to basic tumbling and pre-sports skills.

Caretaker and Me is designed for children ages 15 months-2 1/2 years-old. This class is with a caretaker. All children must be walking. Props are also included (i.e. parachute, hula hoops, bean bags, etc.) and music will be used to work on all areas of development. There will be free play and structured activities. Contact Shareen Scibek for more information, 410-374-0180. Classes take place on the third floor of the Longwell Municipal Center, 11 Longwell Avenue.

FEBRUARY 2012                                                                                                                                          

Middle School Valentine's Dance

Saturday, February 11  7-10pm

Westminster City Recreation will hold a dance for middle school students at the Longwell Municipal Center gymnasium (old armory building), 11 Longwell Avenue. All middle school students are invited and encouraged to attend, regardless of which school you attend. Admission is $5 at the door. We will have refreshments for sale, including smoothies, prizes and, of course, cool tunes. Students must be in grades 6-8 to participate and must bring  a signed parental waiver for admission. Parent's Night Out

Saturday, February 18  5-9 p.m.

$15 for the first child, $5 each additional child (from the same household)

Start making plans with your spouse, friends, partner, or family...because we've got the child care covered! Go shopping, grab some dinner, see a movie or just go relax! Kids will play games, watch movies, do crafts, play sports, eat pizza and have a ball with our exceptionally trained staff of caregivers and teachers. Corbit's Charge Civil War Ball

March 31st  8:00 - 11:00 p.m.
This event features period dancing at the armory gymnasium (11 Longwell Ave). 2012 Corbit’s Charge Ball tickets will be $20.00 for 18 & up, $10.00 for 13-18years old and 12 and under are free. Dance instruction is offered for experienced and beginner dancers as well as light refreshments. Proceeds benefit the 147th Corbit's Charge Commemoration, a non-profit organization to educate the public on the Civil War History in Westminster. Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 7 10:30 a.m. (ages 1-4) 11:30 a.m. (ages 5-8)

Join the Easter Bunny at the Annual Egg Hunt on the Westminster City Hall Grounds (1838 Emerald Hill Lane). The first hunt will start at 10:30am for ages one to four years. The second hunt is for ages five to eight years and begins at 11:30am. There are over 4,000 plastic filled eggs with 100 special prize eggs. The hunts are FREE and open to the public. Bring a basket! A bunny petting zoo is also offered. Face painting, basket raffles, and food will be available for purchase. Call 410-848-9161 for more information. PRE REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED.

Father/Son Miniature Golf Tournament

Saturday, April 14   10am

at Westminster's Island Green. $25 per twosome. The fee includes light refreshments, awards, and door prizes. Trophies will be awarded to the first place winners in the following age groups: 5-7, 8-10, and 11-13 years-old. The tournament is limited to 36 twosomes. (ONE ADULT MALE AND ONE MALE CHILD in Kindergarten through the Eighth grade). Pre-registration is required by April 1.

Tour de Carroll

Will be held in April 2012 at Dutterer Family Park. Tour de Carroll is a cycling event for all ages and skill levels, featuring an 8 mile Family Fun Route, 25 mile Recreational Route, 36 mile Spring Classic, and a 63 Mile Metric Century. Flower and Jazz Festival

Saturday, May 12 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Event takes place in Historic Downtown Westm
inster and is designed for a leisurely day of fun and jazz. Delicious food and great entertainment will be offered. Local nurseries set up beautiful displays of unusual plants and shrubs. There are also over 100 craft vendors displaying a wide variety of unique items. This event is open to the public. Moms...don't forget to visit the information table for your free gift. Flower and Jazz Fun Run Walk and 5K

Saturday, May 12 9:00 a.m.
The fun run is held at the Wakefield Valley Community Trail (Tahoma Farm Rd) . There will be a 200 yard dash for children ages 6 and under starting at 9am. The one mile fun run starts 9:15am for ages 7 and up. The timed 5K will begin at 9:30am. A $20 donation is requested ($5 discount when registering 2 or more participants). National Kids to Parks Day

Saturday, May 19

The City of Westminster Recreation and Parks Department is celebrating National Kids to Parks Day, created by the National Park Trust! We will have a Small Fry Triathlon at Westminster City Park, the Carroll County Library will have a book sale at the Library Park, Recreation on the Move will be out and about at Westminster Parks and more! Westminster Stingrays Learn-to-Swim Program

Tuesdays, May 22nd and Tuesday May 29th 6pm to 7:30pm

2012 Registration will take place in the Community Building at the Westminster Municipal Pool, 325 Royer Road.  The dates are  The cost per session per child is $50. There will be 3 sessions to choose from in June & July.  Lessons are held Monday – Thursday with Friday reserved as a weather make up day.   There are slots available in the morning and in the evening.  First come, first served.

Westminster Stingrays Swim Team Registration

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

Art in the Park

This is a festival of visual and performing arts featuring dozens of the region's most talented painters, photographers, and fine craft artists. Continuous live music and free kids crafts. Summer Day Camp

June- August 2012
Westminster City Recreation's Summer Day camp takes place all full weeks Carroll County Public Schools are out of session. It is designed for children to participate in a full day program interacting with one another. Campers participate in games, sports, crafts, field trips, swimming, and a variety of other activities. This is a great way for your children to spend the summer enjoying structured, safe, and fun activities. Tot Camp - Now Offering 6 Weeks!

June-August 2012
Tot Camp is held in the Babylon Community Building located adjacent to the Longwell Municipal Center at 11 Longwell Avenue, and is designed for children ages 3-5 years, who must be potty trained. Group settings like crafts, circle games and socializing with other children are key elements. Mini field trips and swimming will also be scheduled throughout the summer. A Month of Sundays Concert Series

every Sunday evening in July  6:45 p.m.

Voted "Carroll's Best Place to Listen to Music" in Carroll County by Carroll County Times readers in 2011!
Held every Sunday in July, this free concert series celebrates the wonderful outdoors in the summer in the City. The concert series is presented in joint cooperation with the Westminster City Recreation and Parks Department, Carroll County Department of Recreation & Parks, and Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc. It is located in Westminster City Park, beginning at 6:45pm. Food and beverages are for sale. Donations of personal care items for all ages: baby food, diapers, formula, paper goods or cleaning supplies will be collected to benefit the Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc.

Water Aerobics at the Westminster Municipal Pool

Tuesdays and Thursdays, all August long 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Join us each Tuesday and Thursday in August from 6-7 p.m. at the Westminster Municipal Pool, 325 Royer Road, for a water aerobics! The class is free for Westminster Family Fitness Center Members but is open to members of the general public for a $7 guest fee.

Fallfest Mile Benefit Run/Walk

September 27

The event begins on the corner of Monroe Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and is an open mile run/walk timed by the Westminster Roadrunners. The cost is a $10 donation to benefit the Stacey Davis Breast Cancer Fund. Same day registration will be accepted or you can download the form on this website. Westminster Fallfest FANtastic Friday

Halloween Parade

Tuesday, October 23 7:00 p.m.
The annual Halloween parade in Historic Downtown Westminster on October 25th. Registration begins at 6pm on Monroe St. near Dutterer's Park. The parade begins at 7pm via Pennsylvania Avenue to Main Street and ending on Longwell Avenue. This event is coordinated by the American Legion Post #31. Call 410-857-7953 for more information.

Trick-or-Treat Trail &

Pie Making and Pumpkin Carving Contests!

Saturday, October 27 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Join us a Wakefield Valley Community Trail, Tahoma Farm Road, Westminster to take part in the 1st Annual Trick-or-Treat Trail! Bring your Halloween bucket and trick-or-treat along the trail as local businesses pass out the candy!

Veterans Day Ceremony

Harvest Fun Run

Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Parade

November 24  5pm 
Come celebrate the holiday season in Historic Westminster. Enjoy the seasonal sounds of the Westminster Municipal Band, sing carols, see the awarding of the Mayor's Cup and await the arrival of Santa. Come early to purchase a treat from the holiday bake sale and enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate.

FREE children's event.  Held in the Armory (11 Longwell Ave.) from 6pm-8:30pm after the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Games, crafts, music, fun...and, of course, SANTA!!!
