UTILITY MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

The City’s Utility Maintenance Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Utility Maintenance Department personnel repair water leaks, eliminate sewer blockages, locate and mark lines upon receipt of Miss Utility work orders, read and maintain the City’s water metering system, install water and sanitary sewer services, as well as perform routine and special maintenance on the City’s water and wastewater facilities.

The City’s water distribution system includes approximately 75 miles of water mains, seven water production wells, two water booster pumping stations, and four finished water storage facilities. The system is actually two water systems: the main system and the Wakefield Water system, which is actually a satellite water system.

The City’s wastewater collection system includes approximately 65 miles of sanitary sewer mains and 12 wastewater pumping stations. The City aggressively seeks to significantly reduce the infiltration and inflow entering the wastewater collection system. These flows consume valuable capacity and add additional expense to the wastewater treatment process.

Mike Zechman is the Superintendent of the Utility Maintenance Department.  He can be contacted at 410-848-5043 or via email.
